If you know me, you know I LOVE bagels. They’re my weakness! With Trader Joe’s “Everything But The Bagel” seasoning and an incredible recipe from one of my favorite food bloggers, you can make the easiest, most delicious, homemade bagels this weekend.
Zach and I have a weekend tradition of walking to the bagel shop in our town and bringing them to eat at the beach. This time, I decided to make homemade bagels!
It sounds like something that would be complicated, but this was the easiest recipe to follow and it required little effort.
The base recipe I used for homemade bagels is from Sally’s Baking Addiction - one of my favorite sites! Typically, when I use other recipes, I’ll make a bunch of adaptations and changes along the way, but I didn’t have to modify a thing with these bagels.
Here’s what you’ll need for the recipe:
Instant or Active Dry Yeast
White or Dark Brown Sugar
Honey or Barley Malt Syrup
Trader Joe’s “Everything But The Bagel” Seasoning!
I was really lucky to find Bread Flour at the grocery store, which is why I was so excited to make homemade bagels this weekend. Bread Flour is crucial for bagels.
I used Dark Brown Sugar instead of White, and Honey instead of Barley Malt Syrup. I also used Trader Joe’s “Everything But The Bagel” seasoning to top these off! I needed exactly one bottle (2.3oz).
The steps were easy to make these bagels - the only part that took a while was letting the dough rise for 1-2 hours!
Assemble the dough in your mixer & let rise in an oiled bowl
Knead dough & separate into 8 pieces, rolling into balls and pressing a hole through the middle to create a bagel shape
Boil the 8 shaped bagels in water & honey mixture for 1 min on each side
Place bagels on 2 baking sheets. Brush with egg wash and add toppings
Bake for 20-25 min!
